Another good read by my favorite author。

I just love Sophie Kinsella! I read all she writes including her Madeline Wickham books as soon as they become available。 I was trying to hold off and save this one as a reward to myself but devoured it in less than 24 hours。 Fabulous! Is there anyway you can write more, Sophie???? Maybe a half dozen a year???? 😂 I love her characters fun internal banter and her hilarious turmoil and view of the world。

I absolutely adored this book。 I listened to it in audio in a day and a half and it actually made me glad when I had house chores to do because it meant I could listen to the story meanwhile。 Effie was a really fun character to share a head with。 I loved her wit and stubbornness and wit。 Many times she had me going, Oh, gosh she's not actually going to do that is she? But then she did and it was hilarious。Joe was the perfect boyfriend to give a second chance to。 He was handsome, smart, witty, and, most importantly, Effie's partner in crime all along。I loved Effie's family as well, especially the siblings bond。 And the backdrop to the story was this gorgeous-accused-to-be-ugly Victorian country house: Greenoaks。 This could've been my dream home, I'd so love to have a house with a turret, I mean, a turret!! It'd become my writing studio in a heartbeat。 It was fun to rediscover the house alongside Effie, to peep through trapdoors, hide under tables, crawl down dusty passageways and hidden attics。。。 Greenoaks sounds like the dream house to spend one childhood in。。。The idea behind this book was so original and this is Kinsella at her best。。。 loved this one! 。。。more

If there’s one word to describe Sophie Kinsella’s books- it would be heartwarming。 And she did not disappoint this time, either。 I was so invested in Effie’s story that I just could not put it down and finished it in one go。The book covers the story of Effie, whose parents have just split up and she is also about to lose her family home and her world comes to a standstill。 Throw in the mix a complicated relationship with her dad and his girlfriend, seeing her ex-boyfriend who broke her heart, an If there’s one word to describe Sophie Kinsella’s books- it would be heartwarming。 And she did not disappoint this time, either。 I was so invested in Effie’s story that I just could not put it down and finished it in one go。The book covers the story of Effie, whose parents have just split up and she is also about to lose her family home and her world comes to a standstill。 Throw in the mix a complicated relationship with her dad and his girlfriend, seeing her ex-boyfriend who broke her heart, and a bunch of other revelations as she is on the quest to retrieve her childhood treasure before her home is sold。 It is a roller coaster ride as she sorts out the mess and comes to terms with how life will be like going forward。I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a cosy and comforting read。 。。。more

What quirky, funny read! It certainly kept my attention and made me laugh。 Yes, some of it was a bit over the top but I loved it! I haven't read too many of Sophie's books before so thought I would give this one a go。 I just found it a bit cringey。 The story line is a one that I am sure people can relate too so hopefully it will make them feel less alone。 Effie's mum and dad have split up and now he parading his new girlfriend round like he is a new man。 Meanwhile the new girlfriend is trying to get her mitts on anything and everything and Effie is not a fan。 Her dad and his new girlfriend decide to sell the family home an I haven't read too many of Sophie's books before so thought I would give this one a go。 I just found it a bit cringey。 The story line is a one that I am sure people can relate too so hopefully it will make them feel less alone。 Effie's mum and dad have split up and now he parading his new girlfriend round like he is a new man。 Meanwhile the new girlfriend is trying to get her mitts on anything and everything and Effie is not a fan。 Her dad and his new girlfriend decide to sell the family home and have a house cooling party but Effie is not sure she wants to go, but she has things at her house she wants, can she sneak in and get them without being spotted? when being hidden she discovers some family secrets she didn't know and now she wants to know what is really going on。 It was an ok story, a little funny in parts and wondering what Effie would do next。 。。。more

A very sweet story about how sometimes people close to each other hide things from one another。The main character was charming, full of personality and very relateable。 She nicely shows the kind of tricks our memory plays on us, the power of nostalgia, and the difficulty of vulnerability。 Bean and Gus were realistic as flawed people but good siblings (I liked them so much more than the siblings in "I Owe You One")。The love story was very cute and was definitely the secondary focus of the book。 A very sweet story about how sometimes people close to each other hide things from one another。The main character was charming, full of personality and very relateable。 She nicely shows the kind of tricks our memory plays on us, the power of nostalgia, and the difficulty of vulnerability。 Bean and Gus were realistic as flawed people but good siblings (I liked them so much more than the siblings in "I Owe You One")。The love story was very cute and was definitely the secondary focus of the book。 。。。more

It took a little bit for this one to really get going, but it gets super fun about 1/4th of the way in when things actually start to happen。Despite it being two years Effie finds out that the parents she thought had a perfect relationship are getting a divorce, she seems to still be in denial and hoping that someone will somehow say that it was all a mistake and nothing needs to change。 Unfortunately, not only is that not happening, but her dad is selling the quirky family home they grew up in。 It took a little bit for this one to really get going, but it gets super fun about 1/4th of the way in when things actually start to happen。Despite it being two years Effie finds out that the parents she thought had a perfect relationship are getting a divorce, she seems to still be in denial and hoping that someone will somehow say that it was all a mistake and nothing needs to change。 Unfortunately, not only is that not happening, but her dad is selling the quirky family home they grew up in。 So the title's crashed party is a goodbye house party set up by her dad's gold-digger girlfriend who didn't even bother to invite Effie to the party。It's once the party-crashing begins that the story takes off。 It's fun and warm and just crazy enough to showcase just how weird everyone's family can be in stressful situations。 It leads to great revelations, small surprises, the realization that things might not always be what they seem, and the important discovery that change is sometimes for the better。This truly is a fun and emotional read that goes from emotional to fun on a dime and keeps you on your toes as you're turning pages。 Definitely, one to indulge in and enjoy。Many happy thanks to NetGalley and Dial Press for the great read! 。。。more

Loved it!! I would give it 4。5 stars, almost 5 stars。 I was a little apprehensive about reading it because the last few books by the author were not my favorite and I hated the characters。 This was a breath of fresh air and completely not what I expected (in a good way)。 I can't believe the lengths that Effie took to be invisible throughout the whole party。 How did anyone not see her?? Do to her hiding from the family she got to hear a lot of information and see stuff she never wanted to witness Loved it!! Do to her hiding from the family she got to hear a lot of information and see stuff she never wanted to witness。 (Spanx removal!!!)。 She's probably traumatized from seeing the roleplaying between her dad and Krista。 Effie, Gus and Bean's family completely changes when they get the news over Christmas that their parents are divorcing。 Let's give horrible news while trimming the tree and passing out presents。 Nothing says Falalalala and Santa like divorce。 Mimi, gets replaced with Krista。 Of course, I hated Krista immediately。 The Instagram posts that she posted with Tony were disgusting。 Bath tub pics do not need to be shared with everyone。 I can't put all the blame on Krista, Tony is just as responsible。 He allowed her to treat his children horrible。 He buried his head in the sand an let Krista do what ever she wanted。 Effie definitely added entertainment with all her shenanigans at the house all because of Russian Dolls。 She told a little kid that she was a ghost。 Everyone needs a Dr。 Joe in their life。 I wasn't expecting the reason Joe gave Effie for what happened four years previously。 Definitely recommend it。 Loved the story, characters and writing style。 You never knew what was going to happen with this crazy family。 Look forward to reading more books by the author。 I received a complimentary copy of this book from Random House Publishing Group - Random House, through NetGalley。 Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own。 。。。more

Sophie Kinsella’s The Party Crasher is the story of Effie and her siblings, who are heartbroken after their parents divorce and their childhood home is being sold。 The family decides to have a farewell party in their old home。 The problems arise when their father’s much younger girlfriend is put in charge of the events。 A humorous and well-written novel, I found myself cheering for Effie as she muddles through the weekend events。 I can so see this book as a movie!

The Party Crashers – the perfect witty and rib-tickling guide to the Do’s & Don’ts of gate-crashing a party。 A must-read for all rom-com lovers! It was uproariously hilarious and entertaining, replete with a cast of flawed and endearing characters who would melt your heart。 The plot is so fast paced, with all the events taking place in the span of a day that you are completely glued to the read。 Family – can’t live with them, can’t live without them! The last thing Effie expected to hear on an enchanting Christmassy day was the news of her parents splitting up。 18 months later, she finds herself stuck in the same spot, mulling over her parent's divorce, while having to deal with the more devastating news of the sale of her family home。 Her father's girlfriend, Krista is rather a pain, with whom she has been engaged in a long-running feud。 With the house now all set to be handed over to the new owners, Krista is throwing a 'house-cooling party' to which practically the whole town has been invited except for, well you guessed it, Effie。 Effie retaliates by deciding to not go to this fancy event, until she realizes that she has a valuable childhood artifact back at home that she is not ready to part with yet。 So she decides to sneak into the party and retrieve her hidden treasure at any cost! Creeping into the house, dodging bouncers and moving secretly between cupboards and trapdoors, Effie learns two things that day, the hard way。 One, party crashing and trying to stay hidden is a sinister and inconvenient business, and two, her family is not what she made it out to be! Throw in a hot ex-boyfriend, few crazy guests and some earth shattering truth bombs to this mix, and the party is all set to rock!Make way for some drama! By god, imagine sneaking into your own home like a robber, that too on such a day when the house is brimming with people! I had my heart in my mouth watching Effie trying her best to not get caught, swiftly managing to avoid running into any of the guests and moving from room to room in search of her dolls。 What stood out the most for me about this book is its plot, which I found to be fresh and original。 Sophie Kinsella has put a lot of thought into each and every element of her story, right from the naming of her characters。 Why Effie is called so is rather a cute story in itself and I felt it made the characters a whole lot more relatable。 The story is narrated through Effie’s point of view, which is only fair, I guess, considering how the poor thing had to perform more than her fair share of gymnastics, even hiding under tables, for her rather important cause! :P While the book moves quickly, with the events unfolding one after the other through unpredictable shifts, the narrations, descriptions and inner musings are just the right amount, not boring the reader with too many details while relaying important aspects that is vital to the story。 Although the book treats us to a swoon worthy romance involving Effie and her ex-boyfriend Joe, much of the focus is kept on her family’s histrionics, which is both hilarious and heart-wrenching at the same time。 The shift in the dynamics in the family, amidst the disintegration and decline of relationships following a divorce have been handled quite sensitively, a feat that only Sophie Kinsella can do! While the whole story has been conveyed on a lighter note, there are plenty of thought-provoking bits that makes you think about life in general。 I particularly enjoyed the bonding between the sibling trio – Bean, Effie and Gus, and the way each of them finds themselves, through startling revelations, towards the end of the story。 Needless to say, this was a five star read for me, one I was sorry to put away when it finished! With Fall just around the corner, The Party Crasher would be a perfect addition to your autumn reads – warm and cozy, with the right blend of drama and emotions that is sure to keep you entertained till the end。 Rating: 5/5  。。。more

I think this is my favorite Kinsella book so far because it's not as fluffy as most of her books, and I could totally see the main character doing everything based on her personality and life history。 There were lots of sweet moments, sad moments, and smiles thanks to Effie's family and dad, and the setting of a quirky family home that's about to be sold。Even the house itself has its own time to shine, with loads of reminiscing details from my own childhood, like secret hiding places and attics I think this is my favorite Kinsella book so far because it's not as fluffy as most of her books, and I could totally see the main character doing everything based on her personality and life history。 There were lots of sweet moments, sad moments, and smiles thanks to Effie's family and dad, and the setting of a quirky family home that's about to be sold。Even the house itself has its own time to shine, with loads of reminiscing details from my own childhood, like secret hiding places and attics and deep coat cupboards。Kinsella mixes in assumptions, longing, quick judgments, and miscommunication well, and the wrap up to it all is HEA perfect, and not just because of the love interests。 。。。more

My love for Sophie Kinsella dates all the way back to the early 2000s when I discovered Confessions of a Shopaholic。 I adored the writing and have been devouring anything Kinsella writes ever since。 The Party Crasher was so enjoyable and I loved getting to know Effie and the quirky cast of family and party guests。 Kinsella always does awkward, cringey moments so well。 There were heart-warming bits and laugh-out-loud shenanigans, and I was left with a smile on my face when I finished。

Sophie Kinsella’s books never fail to bring a smile to my face。 The Party Crasher has all of the wit, heart, and quirky characters that I have come to expect and love from her books。Effie is heartbroken when she finds out that her family home is being sold。 It was bad enough when her parents decided to divorce after so many years of marriage, but now Effie and her siblings would no longer be able to go and visit the house, share holiday meals there, and just bask in all of its eclectic charm。 It Sophie Kinsella’s books never fail to bring a smile to my face。 The Party Crasher has all of the wit, heart, and quirky characters that I have come to expect and love from her books。Effie is heartbroken when she finds out that her family home is being sold。 It was bad enough when her parents decided to divorce after so many years of marriage, but now Effie and her siblings would no longer be able to go and visit the house, share holiday meals there, and just bask in all of its eclectic charm。 It doesn’t matter if Effie is an adult, it still hurts。When her father and his new, younger girlfriend decide to throw a final party at the family home, Effie is beside herself。 She hasn’t been in much contact with her father, she doesn’t get along with his new love interest, nor does she want to go and celebrate and bid farewell to the house。 The only thing that is pushing her to go is so that she can retrieve her beloved Russian nesting dolls。The whole story takes place over the course of a couple of days。 The book is centered around the party at the family home, and it’s not just your average get-together, not at all。 No expense was spared for this shindig。 While Gus and Bean, Effie’s siblings, were going to be in attendance, Effie decided to stay away。 Well, maybe “stay away” isn’t quite the right way to put it。 Effie was going to go to the party to find her Russian dolls and then get out (or escape), preferably without being noticed by the other guests。 The Russian dolls may not be the only thing that Effie comes away with from this event。You can probably imagine what ensued。 To say that Effie’s grand plan went without incident would be completely inadequate。 There was a great deal of chaos, mishaps, and plenty of humor and heart à la Sophie Kinsella。 A party is not a real party without a bit of mayhem, right? Right。The Party Crasher was an entertaining read。 It had family dysfunction (but, really, whose family doesn’t have a bit of dysfunction?), a good amount of humor, and a touch of romance。 Sophie Kinsella is a must-read author for me, and I’m already looking forward to discovering what story she will come up with next。*I received a copy of the book from the publisher (via NetGalley)。 。。。more

You, like me, might find Effie immature and annoying at the beginning of this novel about a family forced to face change but wait- she'll grow on you。 Effie's father and step-mom Mimi have divorced, her father is living with the hated Krista, and now their family home, Greenoaks has been sold。 Effie has no intention of going to the last party there until she remembers she left her Russian dolls behind, shoved up in a chimney。 So she sets off to sneak in while the party is going。 No so fast。 She You, like me, might find Effie immature and annoying at the beginning of this novel about a family forced to face change but wait- she'll grow on you。 Effie's father and step-mom Mimi have divorced, her father is living with the hated Krista, and now their family home, Greenoaks has been sold。 Effie has no intention of going to the last party there until she remembers she left her Russian dolls behind, shoved up in a chimney。 So she sets off to sneak in while the party is going。 No so fast。 She runs into her old love Joe。 Everyone has a secret- her sister Bean, her brother Gus, Joe, her dad, Mimi, and most interestingly of all, Krista。 It's funny, if a bit over the top in spots。 I found myself pulled in and rooting not just for Effie but also for the rest of the gang。 Thanks to netgalley for the ARC。 A light fast read that pulls you in and keeps you turning the pages。 。。。more

Thank you so much to Netgalley and the publisher for the free ARC of Kinsella’s, The Party Crasher。 I was ecstatic because all of Sophie’s books are always dear to my heart。 This one is no exception! The story follows Efie, a 26 year old girl who feels as if her world is plummeting when she finds out her parents are separating and her dad gets an awful new girlfriend。 As a result there’s a strain between Efie and her dad。 When she finds out her childhood home is for sale, and she doesn’t get invited to the “house cooling” party, she is devastated and angry。 She wants nothing to do with it, until she remembers her Russian dolls who have provided her comfort for so many years。 She hatches a plan to sneak into the party, and what follows is a series of unfortunate and heartfelt events。 However, what Efie gains throughout this one night is so much more。 She bonds with her siblings, she learns about family secrets, and she faces unfinished business she has with her first love。 I’ll be honest, there wasn’t too much of a love story plot。 The real message is about growing up, never giving up on those that you love, never assuming you know what someone is going through, and then some。 It wasn’t my favorite Kinsella book, but her witty humor and light heartedness kept me engaged throughout。 Rating: 3。5 ⭐️ 。。。more
